Shaarey Zedek for breakfast and a lec- ture by Rabbi Leonid Feldman, Midrasha 1987 Bargman scholar-in-residence. Rabbi Feldman will speak on his life in Russia as a refusenik as well as his transformation to a commit- tee Jew outside of the Soviet Union. Rabbi Feldman holds a Master of Science degree in physics with a minor in theater arts from the Kishinev Institute and the Scientific Seminar of Aliyah Activists and Refuseniks. In addition, he earned his Bachelor of Hebrew Letters degree at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles and his master's degree at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He was ordained as a Conservative rabbi at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Included in the Detroit group are: Esther Bodzin, Noam Koenigsberg, Victor Biletsky, Marcy Morton, Regional President Julie Kowalksy, Nancy Berman, Ben Berris, Judy Schussel, Jamie Pearlberg, Jordana Morse and chapter presidents Naomi Berkove and Ari Schochet. B'nei Akiva Plans Weekend B'nei Akiva's ninth grade Shevet has begun plans for a regional Shevet weekend to be held in Detroit in early February. Ninth graders from Chicago, Cleveland, Pitt- sburgh and St. Louis will join the local Shevet for a weekend of both social events and education sessions. In preparation for the Shab- baton, the Detroit Shevet will offer a Shabbat-a-gram ser- vice, chaired by Nancy Ber- man and Abby Eisenberg. Members will be able to send special Shabbat telegrams to friends both locally and out of town. There is a charge for this service. Contact Ms. Ber- man, 352-2020, for details. Benny Appel, B'nei Akiva's local shaliach, will attend a national B'nei Akiva con- ference this week in New York. He will explore new possibilities offered by the na- tional board to further enhance the local B'nei Akiva chapter. Colman Leaves BBYO Position Joel Colman, Michigan BBYO assistant director, will leave the agency in November to assume the position of regional director of the BBYO program in St. Louis. Colman, who has served Michigan BBYO since August 1985, will direct the Mid- America Region program out of the Jewish Community Center in St. Louis. There will be a "fun night" at Compuware in Oak Park on Nov. 14. There will be a live band, kosher food and a variety of sports activities. The evening is planned in conjunction with the Akiva Hebrew Day School. NCSY will go apple picking followed by a hay ride on Nov. 15, weather permitting. The weekend of Nov. 20-21, all local NCYSers are invited to a special Shabbat at Young Israel of Southfield. The theme will be "Jerusalem: Eye of the Universe," and will .
