`Counterfeit' Show
Deserves Encores

Local Columnist

fifty million dollars in
counterfeit money sure
looks the same . . . and
sounds the same.
That's how it is at Topinka's
Country House on Telegraph
and W Seven Mile now with
the return of it's "Starline
Revue."
Millions of dollars couldn't
buy the real thing . . . all in
one show . . . so next best
thing is having imper-
sonators that are good.
For sure there are impres-
sionists who sound like
anybody but the person
they're trying to imitate .. .
or even look like them for
that matter . . . At Ibpinka's,
however, the "Starline
Revue" doesn't seem to have
many flaws . . . as the guys 'n
gals go through a two-hour-or-
more pace with much enter-
taining results.
The show is there Tuesdays
through Saturdays . . .
Tuesday-Thursday from 9:30
p.m. and Friday and Saturday
from 10 p.m. . . . An untold
amount of good counterfeit
dollars wrapped up into each
performance.
There is a very good "Barry
Manilow" . . . done by per-
sonable Frank Sternett, who
is often asked on the street if
he is, in fact, the real Barry
Manilow . . . and many times
beseeched for an autograph
. . . Tracey Jackson does an
almost perfect "Donna Som-
mers" and is also the very tor-
rid show-stopper "Tina
Turner" getting the audience
involved with hand-clapping
as it stands and stomps to her
action-packed rhythms.
Danny Vann is "Elvis
Presley" in the tribute to this
once great entertainer who
Danny lauded and imper-
sonated four years before his
passing . . . "I know I'm not
Elvis; he can never be replac-
ed," says Danny on stage,
along with, "Elvis Presley
was the greatest entertainer
the world has ever known and
I respect him."
Debra Jimmerson is
"Karen Carpenter" . . . Den-
nis Gunther does "Madonna"
. . . David Robins triple
threats on "Lou Rawls,"
Johnny Mathis" and "Nat
`King' Cole."
There's also the "Starline"
combo orchestra and "Star-
line" dancers Wendy Zarem-
bra and Heather McNeill.
No more cover charge as
before at Ibpinka's Country
House . . . with dinner and

two drinks per person part of
the regular package on all
days . . . a minimal cover on-
ly if otherwise.

Counterfeit to be sure .. .
but certainly no bogus talent
here . . . with a lot of fun
entertainment wrapped into
a very neat bundle.
WELL OVER 500 names

are on the petition at Zeman's
Bakery, Greenfield north of
Ten Mile . . . calling for the
former Jakks Lounge in the
shopping center there not to
be turned into a topless go-go
spot . . . Residents don't want
it . . . and Oak Park officials
have nothing to say because
that little strip is part of
Royal Oak Thwnship.
THE DEAL has been
finalized . . . with Ken
Walters, Dick Sikorsky and
their limited partnership
signing papers for takeover of
eight Charley's tavern opera-
tions plus the Meriwether's

on Telegraph, and Diggers on
Grand River . . . It is expected
that Diggers will be reverted
back to its original name of
Clamdiggers, which was a
highly successful C.E. Muer
property.
One of their other opera-
tions, Panache on Woodward
in Birmingham, is still a big
favorite for diners, dancers
and folks who like to have an
enjoyable evening.
It has an excellent
. . .
managerial team
Wayne
knowledgeable
Gallagher, general manager;
very personable Robin

Pospisil, evening manager;
and popular Sharon O'Day,
daytime manager.
Executive sous chef Peter
Lieber, whom many people
know for his fine kitchen
creative expertise, made our
table three-for-three winners
. . . all dinners to perfec-
tion. . . Chicken and veal
saute (strips of tender veal
and chicken sauteed with an
array offresh vegetables toss-
ed in a lemon sauce) . . .
chicken stir-fry (chicken
breast sauteed with snow
peas, tomatoes, onions,
pineapple and Mandarin
oranges) . .. Chicken Sintia
(sauteed chicken breasts in a
light sauce with Mandarin
oranges, seedless grapes,
toasted almonds and Coin-
treau liqueur).
We sat in the lounge, where
there is live music . . . Tues-
day through Saturday top 40s
and Mondays oldies night .. .
D.J. music is on Sunday.
Our waitress, Dawn Leahy,
is a sweet, gracious young
lady . . . The pastries and
