QUALITY AND CONSISTENCY IS OUR PRIORITY!

This Cookie's Hands
Were Full In Israel

DANNY RASKIN

Local Columnist

laine "Cookie" Koblin
is a rarity . . . she
loves Army life . . . liv-
ing in barracks and washing
dishes, pots and pans after
1,000 meals a day . . . for a
month . . . in full uniform.
"Cookie" owns the Bloom-
field-Keego Resale Shop on
Orchard Lake Rd. and Com-
merce Rd. . . . is a United
States citizen and resident
. . . but volunteered for duty
in the Israeli army this past
June . . . and hopes to go back
for another month in 1988.
She has been to Israel ten
times . . . but enjoyed most
her sojourn there welding
tanks and washing 1,000
dishes per meal by hand.
There were 46 people in her
barracks . . . all ages and not
all Jewish . . . including a
65-year-old Italian Catholic
. Youngest was 18 and the
oldest 77 . . . "Cookie" not on-
ly enjoys army life . . . but the
feeling of pride she gets by
releasing a soldier to do other
duties . . . Most of her fare is
paid for by the Israeli
government.
At home here, hubby Victor
and the kids have clean
dishes all the time . . . but not
hand-washed . . . After all,
this isn't the army, so why not
use the dishwasher?
CONGRATS. ... to Ethel
and Sol Lakind . . . on their
57th anniversary.
TIME FOR that date you
want to circle . . . this
Wednesday (Nov. 4) . . . when
Autumn Hills Chapter,
Women's American ORT has
its annual Shopping Spree at
Kiddieland of West Bloom-
field, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. . . . with
portion of proceeds to the
group . . . Good chance to get
a jump on Chanukah buying,
etc., while helping a very wor-
thy cause . . . Make checks
payable to Women's American
ORT ... Sheri Lisagor is
chairperson and Lynda
Steinberg is president of
Autumn Hills.
SOL COHEN is trying to
locate campers and
counselors of Wolverine Day
Camp that met at Kensington
Park in 1957 to 1967 . . .
About 250 a year used to at-
tend, which could mean
around 2,500 names . . . Sol
used to be its director . . . Give
him a call at 350-9030 (work)
or 545-6400 (home).
"I DO DEPT." ... Randy
Marcuson has engaged Cally
Kasapis for a middle-aisle
session.

Apartments club house on 12
Mile . . . Interested singles or
couples can call Janice
Cohen, president, 398-7285,

person, 642-0376.

. . . on his birthday.
CONGRATS. ... to Pam
Smith . . . on her birthday.
JUST BECAUSE Harry
Goodman's morning walking
exercises Monday, Wednesday
and Friday are indoors these
days at the Oak Park Jewish
Community Center on Ten
Mile because of the weather,
doesn't mean his dog Frankie
can't get his daily workouts
. . . Only a blizzard could stop
Harry and Frankie from their
morning walks . . . When it
was outside at the JCC,
Frankie went his way and
Harry another . . . but the
poochie always caught up to
his master and proudly walk-
ed alongside with him . . . a
beautiful sight.
ALL DAY on recent Sun-
day she had watched her hus-
band glued to the TV football
games, and finally, in ex-
asperation, shouted, "You
love football more than you
love me" . . . "That's true," he
admitted. "But I love you
more than basketball."
CONGRATS. ... to Lisa
Klein . . . masters degree stu-
dent at University of Califor-
nia . . . on her birthday.
