Who are the big and tall men?
They are every man, from all
walks of life. They have the same
diverse interests, the same occu-
pations, tastes, hobbies and
social experiences — the same
dreams and desires as the

Tall Merchandise Manager.
"But today, big and tall clothing
has really come into its own,

big and tall men. Now the
towering seven footer, as well as
the supersized 56 extra long, can

men's Quarterly.
Of all the big and tall men's
stores locally and throughout
the country, the Kosins' opera-
tion is probably the most en-
compassing. And there are
plenty of good reasons why it
flourishes. For example there
are: Oleg Cassini, Lou Myles,
LeBaron, Carelli, Angelo Donati,
Carlo Pucci, Louis Roth and
Bartolini to name a few. Refer-
ring to the designers and manu-
facturers, Ben Kosins, President
of Kosins explains, "They don't
make big and tall clothing for
anyone else." Exclusive labels,
racks of suits and sportswear
and cases of accessories from
important standard-size mens-
wear sources fill the store. "It's
because of buying power,"
Kosins CEO, Harry Kosins
continues. "I simply told them
(the manufacturers) that if you
don't make quality clothing for
me for the Big & Tall store, I
won't buy for the regular store'
because I wanted to give the Big
& Tall customers the kinds of
things they weren't _able to find
before. Now we do such a phe-
nomenal business, the companies
are happy to cut the patterns for
the sizes we use here."

Harry estimates that 28 per-
cent of the male population falls
into the Big & Tall category.
"Big men want to wear
suedes, leathers, velvets, silks,
cashmeres and every kind of
luxurious fabric combined with
every sophisticated style and
silhouette," Goldbaum said. "Not
too long ago, a Kosins' customer,
a size 56 XL, had a yen for a
double-breasted white wool gab
suit. You're right. He got it."
At Kosins Big & Tall, the
"bigs" (40 to 60, regulars and
longs); the "portly" (40 to 60,
shorts and regulars;" . . . we call
them 'senator' models in order
not to intimidate the customer,"
said Harry), and the extra longs
(40 to 56) and other various sizes
in these categories can enjoy
superb tailoring with up-to-the-
minute haberdashery. (To give
you an idea, more than the usual
four — S, M, L and XL — size
ranges for sweaters, Kosins Big
& Tall offers eight, thereby
allowing an Arnold Schwarzen-
egger or Raymond Burr look-
alike the opportunity to wear
this season's terrific sportswear,
too.)
Some very tall — or very
noticeable — Detroiters are
