Mishan, which was organiz- ed in 1931 on the principal of mutual aid, provided assistance to the elderly and those in need. Today, Mishan takes care of the elderly by providing either sheltered housing facilities with in- dividual, independent living units or homes for the aged which provide total group ser- vices for residents who are no longer able to function on their own, or for those who feel more comfortable in community-type housing. Mishan has also establish- ed youth villages to help youngsters from distressed families who bear emotional scars of being orphaned, from extreme poverty or broken homes. Its institutions today care for more than 1,500 students. They are educated and are given vocational skills to prepare them to take their place in society. Mishap also grants loans to needy, retired Histadrut members. The meeting is open to the public. For information, call Histadrut, 967-4720.
