Sophie Sislin

Sophie Sislin, who for more
than half a century was
among the high ranking
women activists in the Labor
Zionist movement, died Oct.
17 at age 95.
She was genuinely a
pioneer when, with her late
husband, David Sislin, who
was known as the Yiddish
orator in Zionist ranks, she
was in the organizing ranks
of Pioneer Women (now
Naamat USA) of Labor
Zionism.
With her late husband, in
the 1940s and 1950s, she was
a member of the Arlosoroff
Branch of the Jewish Na-
tional Workers Alliance, now
the Labor Zionist Alliance.
Mrs. Sislin also had an
organizing role in Histadrut
and was hostess for numerous
functions for fellow Labor
Zionists.
She leaves a daughter, Mrs.
Harold (Evelyn) Noveck; a
son, Paul; a brother, Dr. Louis
E. Robbins; six grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren.

Cellist Dies

Paris (JTA) — Jacqueline du
Pre, whose distinguished
career as a cellist was cut
short when she was stricken
by multiple sclerosis 14 years
ago, died Oct. 19 at age 42.
She had been married since
1967 to Israeli conductor and
pianist Daniel Barenboim,
who presently heads the Paris
Orchestra and the Bastille
Opera.
