for the violation. Though the
Talmudic principle asserts
that "a man's agent is as
himself," that principle can-
not be argued in matters of
immoral acts. "There are no
agents for matters of trans-
gression."
Though rebellion against
the king is a serious, even
capital offense in the Talmud,
if the king's orders contradict
the moral imperatives which
derive from God's word, the
king is to be disobeyed. Sum-
ming up the hierarchy of
values in a reiterated
rhetorical question the rabbis
ask, "When the words of the
teacher and the words of the
pupil contradict, whose words
shall be heeded?" Surely, that
of the teacher. The teacher is
the divine conscience in the
human spirit cultivated by
the Torah.
An agent is responsible for
his own act. The subordinate
cannot shift the responsibili-
ty to his superior. Are there
human superiors for men and
women who know themselves
created in the image of God?
Subordinates are not chattel,
their minds and wills are not
properties of another. Agents
cannot pretend that they are
but automatic extensions of
another's decisions. The buck
stops with each of us who is
ordered to act in the world af-
fecting the lives of others. The
proper criticism of the Iran
fiasco is not that the Presi-
dent of the United States did
not early on declare that the
buck stops with him, but
rather with the presumption
that the buck belongs else-
where — anywhere but with
the person carrying out his
orders.
The Judaic hero does not
snap to attention and salute
any order, not even that
which purportedly comes
from the Divine Commander.
So we are informed that
Moses countermanded not
one but several orders of God.
According to the Midrash,
when the Holy One said to
Moses — "Make war with
Sichon even though he does
not seek to interfere with you.
You must open hostilities
against him," Moses dis-
obeyed. Instead of following
those orders, Moses sent
messengers to Sichon to
negotiate with words of peace.

Pain Of Migraine Will Not
`Just Go Away"

BY DR. STANLEY R LEVINE

Doctor of Chiropractic

Ask any ten people what the five most dangerous words in the
English language are and you would probably get ten different answers.
Yet there is one answer which would be applicable to a vast number
of health problems.
My choice for the five most dangerous words would be: "Maybe it
will go away."
Although some health problems are basically self-correcting and will
heal themselves with time, there are a great many others that will only
get worse with time unless something is done about them.
Take migraine, for example.
Estimates of the number of migraine sufferers in the United States
range from eight to twenty million, depending on whose figures you
are studying. Whatever the actual count, the annual loss in wages, pro-
ductivity and just plain enjoyment of life is staggering.
Migraine headaches can start at any time, but most victims have
their first attack between the ages of fifteen and thirty-five. Left
untreated, the condition generally increases in severity
and frequency in the Icte thirties and through the for-
ties. Migraine may reverse its trend after the age of
fifty or so, with attacks becoming less painful and less
frequent.
But saying "maybe it will go away in a few years"
if you are in your thirties or forties is a negative ap-
proach, no matter how optimistic you ore of the out-
come. I think if you ask any true migraine sufferer, they
will tell you they would rather be rid of their problem
DR. STANLEY
now.
B. LEVINE
In many cases of migraine treated by Doctors of
Chiropractic, it has been found that the patient is suffering from a misalign-
ment of vertebrae in the neck. Since virtually every nerve in the human
body passes through or is intimately involved with the structures of the
neck, irritation to nerves in this area can directly affect any of the body's
functions.
In the case of the nerves which produce the symptoms of migraine,
the victim cannot expect to be rid of his or her problem until the irrita-
tion to the nerves is removed. To accomplish this, the Doctor of Chiroprac-
tic restores the vertebrae to their proper alignment. Once this is ac-
complished, the body can set about healing itself from within and free-
ing it from the miseries of migraine.
