Gayle Friedman
'Twins Ceremony
Gayle Friedman will twin
her bat mitzvah Saturday at
Cong. Shaarey Zedek with a
teen from the Soviet Union.
Gayle is the daughter of
Harry and Beverly Friedman.
Her twin, Inna Lederman of
Kishinev, is the only child of
Grigory and Elizaveta Leder-
man, formerly of Kishinev.
An electrical engineer, Leder-
man and his family applied to
leave the Soviet Union in
1976.
Gayle recently learned from
the Detroit Soviet Jewry
Committee that her twin and
family had been allowed to
emigrate. The Friedman
family will celebrate this oc-
casion on behalf of the Leder-
mans' new-found freedom.
They are joining Lederman's
brother and parents who live
in Haifa, Israel. -

Jerusalem (JTA) — The
Supreme Court last Sunday
restored full Parliamentary
immunity to Member of
Knesset Mohammed Miari of
the Progressive List for Peace.
The Knesset had revoked part
of Miari' immunity in
December 1985 after he spoke
in support of the Palestine
Liberation organizations at a
Palestinian rally. One of the
limitations imposed upon him
at that time was freedom of
movement.
Miari's appeal to the high
court of justice set a prece-
dent. It was the first time the
court reversed a decision by
the legislature (Knesset). The
court decision restoring
Miari's immunity was passed
by a vote of five to three.
Court President Meir
Shamgar ruled in principle
that the high court did have
the prerogative to intervene
in Knesset decisions. He said
that Miari's comments at the
time were made within the
framework of his work.
