In the times of the Temple, the Hakhel ceremony took place every seven years dur- ing the Succot holiday that followed the Shniitta year. At a platform in the cour- tyard of the Temple, the king of Israel at the time would publicly read certain portions of the rIbrah for the thousands assembled for the occasion.
