SHERWIN M. BIR-
NKRANT, former Pontiac ci-
ty attorney and currently of
counsel with the Southfield-
based law firm of Schlussel,
Lifton, Simon, Rands, Galvin
and Jackier, has been named
chairman of the American
Bar Association's section of
urban, state and local govern-
ment law.
One of the nation's leading
authorities in municipal law
and state and local govern-
ment procurement, Birn-
krant co-edited the ABA's
Model Procurement Code for
State and Local Govern
ments, first published in
1979. He has served as vice
chairman of the Coordinating
Committee on a Model Pro-
curement Code since 1974.
With the ABA, Birnkrant
has served as Michigan state
chairman of its public con-
tract law section since 1978
and as co-chairman of the sec-
tion's ethics and conflicts of
interest committee. He is also
a member of the section of
economics of law practice.
