Teen Connection is only for seventh and eighth grade Jewish teens. The program will provide a link between the Jewish community and Jewish youth who do not have access to teen programs until grade nine. The program is based at the Jewish Community Center and will offer a wide range of social, recreational, and Jewish cultural activities at both the main and Jimmy Prentis Morris Branch buildings. Field trips in and around the Detroit metropolitan area will be of- fered to the Teen Connection members. A monthly newsletter will be mailed to each member highlighting the upcoming activities and events, and each member will also receive a subscription to The Shofar, the international BBYO newspaper, which will highlight Teen Connection activities around the country. Teen Connection provides staff-developed and staff-led programs, but also allows the teens themselves to have in- put into the program. The first kickoff gathering of the Teen Connection pro- gram will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Oct. 17, at the main Jewish Community Center. Music, dancing, volleyball, basketball, racquetball and refreshments will be provided. Free shuttle service will be available for those living in the Southfield/Oak Park area. The shuttle will leave the JPM at 7:30 p.m. and will return the teens to the JPM at about 11 p.m. There is a fee. The dress is casual. Dinner In Succah For YIT The YIT chapter of the Na- tional Conference of Synagogue Youth will meet Sunday at the Young Israel of Southfield for a special din- ner in the succah. While en- joying the meal, prepared by the NCSY'ers, the group will hear a variety of Divrei Torah by local NCSY'ers and com- munity rabbis. Following the dinner everyone will par- ticipate in a surprise social event. On Oct. 25, YIT will go to the Detroit Lions vs. the Greenbay Packers football game at the Pontiac Silver- dome. The group will meet before the game at the Young Israel of Greenfield, where transporation will be provid- ed to the Silverdome. Follow- ing the game everyone will join together for a kosher piz- za dinner at Mertz's pizza shop. The fee includes round- trip transportation, cost of the ticket, and dinner. Beginning Oct. 19, YIT will dedicate every Monday night as NCSY Night. Every Mon- day, NCSY'ers will gather at the Young Israel of Green- field or Southfield, and will participate in a variety of learning programs, business meetings, and homework ses- sions. The evenings will be coordinated by NCSY Regional Director, Rabbi Mark Cohn. Applications are now being accepted for this year's first NCSY Northern District Shabbaton which will take place Oct. 30 through Nov. 1 at the Taylor Road Synagogue in Cleveland Heights Ohio. There will be participants from NCSY in Detroit, Windsor, Cleveland, Akron, and Pittsburgh. The theme of the Shab- baton is "The Challenge of Freedom—Being Jewish in America". A bus will leave from Young Israel of Green- field on Oct. 30, and return to Young Israel of Greenfield on Nov. 1. There is a fee.
