Cancer Foundation

Continued from preceding page

emplify true commitment
and support from community
leaders . . . To date, the group
founded by Paul and Helen
Zuckerman has raised nearly
$250,000 for cancer research,
prevention and patient
programs.
For more info on the
Angels, call Maxine Ashcraft,
MCF vice president of
development, 833-0710.
FROM THE Ed Sullivan
shows of yesteryears to the
Historic Holly Hotel on Bat-
tle Alley in Holly today .. .
Many will remember the
humorous wit of Jackie Ver-
non, a very fine comedian .. .
He'll be appearing at Holly
Hotel Oct. 30 and Oct. 31 .. .
Norma Zager, who will open
for Jackie, has always been a
fan of his . . . and this will be
a great thrill for the local
comedienne.
HARMON AND Dorothy
Moss are senior citizens who
became tired of retirement
. . . besides being able to use
an extra buck . . . So on Aug.
1, after six years of lolling
around, they started Bubby's
Cookie/Bakery (muffins too).
Dorothy's recipes contain
top ingredients and never a
preservative . . . They use the
facilities of Dino's Pizza, 12
Mile and Greenfield, between
hours of 2 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Monday through Friday.
Since there are just the two
of them, Harmon and
Dorothy have become busy
baking for and delivering to
a wholesale trade . . . Private
orders are taken but must be
called in with at least 24
hours notice . . . They'll
deliver orders of five dozen or
more on a specified date but
cannot guarantee the time of
day their goodies will arrive
. . . Pickup at Bubby's Bakery
must be scheduled to coincide
with their store hours.
IN THE razzle-dazzle
whodunit play Sleuth by Jim-
my Launce Productions, Fri-
day and Saturday nights at
Hyatt Regency Dearborn, no
one is ever who they seem to
be . . . and every event is
bizarre . . . Setting is a cozy
English country house owned
by a famous mystery writer,
where a young house guest
walks in and they begin a
congenial round of Scotch and
dialogue.
Suddenly the host says, "I
understand you want to
marry my wife" . . . and from
that moment on the two are
locked in a mortal encounter
. . . the games that are devis-
ed, murders plotted and
subverted, add up to increas-
ing suspense and an un-
solvable crime . . . Dinner-
theater (Guilios and show
$29.50, Kafays and show $21,
show only $10.50) has an 8:30

curtain in "The Club" on
Hyatt's second level.
Other side of town at
Somerset Dinner Theater in
lower level of Troy's Somerset
Mall has dinner at Sebas-
tian's and show, $29.50, show
only $10.50 . . . Friday and
Saturday curtains are 8:15
p.m. . . . Jimmy Launce Pro-
ductions is putting on the
warm-hearted funny and
eloquently-written family
play, Close Ties . . . which
blends humor and compas-
sion as it comes to grips with
the problem of how best to
provide for the family's aging
matriarch . . . Humorous
touche's give the characters
individuality and depth as
they join forces to unoffensive-
ly resolve the unavoidable
issue of aging versus senility
. . . It is a most human and
genuinely affecting play.
QUITE A tribute . . . hav-
ing someone other than a fan
club put out a monthly
newsletter about you . . .
That's what Harold Patrick is
doing for Jay Roberts, former
"Night Flight" captain at
WJR radio . . . If you want to
get the free newsletter, write
to Harold M. Patrick, 16400
North Park Place, Southfield,
MI, 48075.
Good chance that Jay will
land at CKLW in Windsor,
800 AM . . . the station with
all that good music so many
people are listening to these
days . . . and actually
"discovering" even though
much of it is from the golden
eras of musical yesteryears.
Almost flipped the other
day while driving and hear-
ing Al Hibbler sing "Don't
Get Around Much Anymore"
with the great Duke Ell-
ington orchestra . . . and
mello alto sax of Johnny
Hodges like nobody has ever
been able to duplicate . . . The
more Duke, Jimmy
Lunceford, Count Basie, etc.,
etc., the more I love it.
