United Jewish Charities
OFFICERS
There are good reasons why Detroit is renowned as a
Jewish community of creative vision and unlimited energy.
David Handleman
President
One of those reasons is United Jewish Charities, Federa-
tion's predecessor and continuing partner in service.

The organization hardly shows its age as "Charities"
continues to build upon the foundations laid down in
1899. In its wide-ranging activities, UJC fills many roles:
community trust officer, manager of communal proper-
ties and investments, and financial resource for facilities
and exciting new programs through our agencies.
Vice - Presidents
Martin S. Kraar
Secretary
D. Larry Sherman
Treasurer
Out of the general funds that UJC holds, we support
some important services that other community resources
are unable to fund. For example:

Several of these programs, and many others, were made
possible through the Max M. Fisher Jewish Community
Foundation of UJC.
With the extraordinary growth of endowment funds,
many additional services were provided this year. For a
more detailed description, please see the Federated

In all of these efforts we are grateful for the opportunity
to live up to that gentle talmudic reminder: "My fathers
planted for me before I was born: so do I plant for those
who will come after me." In the coming year, let us join
together in this noble undertaking.
