an organization of recent Rus-
sian emigres, provides a
forum at which the Russians
can share their experiences
and resources, learn about
the services that are available
to them, practice their
English and enjoy an after-
noon with friends.
Another program, "Jews
Around the World — Their
History and Culture," was
structured as a series of
theme months, each focusing
on the contribution of a dif-
ferent immigrant population.
The purpose of this program
was to inform the Center's
members of the integrity of
each group of immigrants and
of their importance to the
United States. "The Russian
Connection" theme included
movies describing life in
Russia, lectures by
Americans who recently
returned from the Soviet
Union, book reviews about
Russia; exhibits and Russian
entertainment.
Other services, such as
legal counseling, are directed
to the Russian community.
Announcements for legal
counseling, like most of the
other announcements, are
written in English and Rus-
sian. One flyer asks the
seniors: "Are you seeking
legal counseling? Do you need
the law clarified? Do you
Want to know whether or not
you have a legal case? If
anyone needs help, Daniel
Levit, a retired attorney who
happens to speak a little Rus-
sian, volunteers his time to
answer some of the legal
questions."
