Oakley, a department
spokesman said.
Oakley was commenting on
a report in the Washington
Post that the Administration
has offered to drop 1,600
Maverick antitank missiles
from a proposed $1 billion
arms sales to the Saudis. .
According to the report, the
Administration is placing
priority on the sale of 12
F-15C and F-15D jet fighters
which would be delivered as
the Saudis current F-15s wear
out or crash. This would
maintain the Saudi F-15 force
at 60.
Congressional opposition to
any arms sales to the Saudis
has held up any formal re t
quest by the Administration
since June when a proposal to
sell Mavericks to the Saudis
was withdrawn by the Ad-
ministration in the face of
almost certain rejection by
Congress.

Holocaust Unit,
Poland Sign
Agreement

Washington, D.C. — An
agreement between the U.S.
Holocaust Memorial Council
and Poland's Main Commis-
sion for the Investigation of
Nazi Crimes in Poland/In-
stitute of National Remem-
brance to exchange
Holocaust-related archival
documents and photographs
was signed Aug. 26 in Belzec,
Poland. This, Council officials
hope, is the first in a series of
similar agreements with
other national institutions
that hold Holocaust-related
documentation in Eastern
Europe and the Soviet Union.
The signing at Belzec, site
of a Nazi death camp where
600,000 Jews were murdered
in a 14-month period beginn-
ing in March 1942, was
witnessed by 3,000, including
many officials of the Polish
government. Final details of
the agreement were worked
out earlier at meetings in
Warsaw between officials of
the Main Commission and
the Council.
Under the agreement, the
Council will provide the
microfilming equipment to
make duplicates of selected
records. Council experts will
also train and assist the Main
Commission in conserving
original documents that are
deteriorating. The Council
will receive copies of any
documents that it requests -
from the Main Commission.
