Israel Mission
Cites Sherman

Participants on the Prime
Minister's Mission to Israel in
August made extra Project
Renewal pledges in honor of
Detroiter Jane Sherman's
work as UJA national Project
Renewal chairman.
Sherman, Allied Jewish
Campaign co-general chair-
man, was one of nine Detroit
leaders who took part in the
mission. As a group, the
Detroit delegation pledged
$1,190,000 towards the Cam-
paign, a card-for-card increase
of 20 percent over last year.
An additional $109,000 was
raised locally toward Project
Renewal.
In all, American Jewish
leaders from 34 countries
pledged $24.9 million and an
additional $2 million in "new
money" towards Project
Renewal.
In addition to the flight to
Israel via the Concorde, the
mission included rides on
command cars and missile
boats; briefings by Israel's
highest officials; and visits
with some of the tens of
thousands of Israelis who
benefit from the UJA Federa-
tion Campaign.
"The funds raised for the
regular UJA/Federation Cam-
paign are the largest amount
ever for a UJA Prime
Minister's Mission," said UJA
National Chairman Martin F.
Stein. "This is an extraor-
dinary accomplishment."
