New York (JTA) — Dozen of the largest Jewish federations across North America in- dicate they are the pioneer participants in the Council of Jewish Federations Satellite Network (CJFSN), an interac- tive television system scheduled to debut next month, it was reported last week. CJFSN will allow the feder- ations and the Council of Jewish Federations (CJF), their umbrella organization, to create and broadcast pro- grams — most likely training sessions, briefings, meetings and press conferences — for one another. Not only will Viewers view, they will be able to dial a toll-free telephone number to talk to partici- pants on the live programs and be heard by the entire audience. "It's really a vehicle for eliminating a lot of travel and time spent in travel, and bridging the communications gap that exists between CJF and federations and between federations themselves," CJF communications director Frank Strauss said. Programs , can originate in any televi- sion studio. The signal will be transmitted to a satellite, G- Star II, now in orbit. Jerusalem Strife Topic Of Meeting Jerusalem (JTA) — The leaders of all but two Knesset factions attended a meeting convened jointly by Premier Yitzhak Shamir and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres Sun- day to seek an end to the ongoing strife between the or- thodox and secular com- munities which has erupted in violence in recent weeks_, mainly in Jerusalem. The only factions absent from the meeting were the Communists and the Kach Party. Secular and religious Knesset' members emerged from the meeting with dif- ferent forecasts. Dedy Zucker of the Citizens Rights Move- ment said film shows would be resumed after Yom Kippur. But Avraham Shapiro of Agudat Israel vowed never on the Sabbath. Jerusalem's secular popula- tion now hopes that the soc- cer stadium, long delayed by Orthodox protests, will final- ly get Shamir's approval and work will start on its con- struction.
