New York, N.Y. — Jews in
the U.S. armed forces station-
ed throughout the world,
their families, and patients in
Veterans Administration
hospitals will once again
receive JWB support to
observe Rosh Hashanah and
Yom Kippur.
Rabbi Aaron Landes, chair-
man of JWB Jewish
Chaplains Council, said,
"Since there are only 49 full-
time Jewish military
chaplains on active duty with
American forces and 13 more
at Veterans Administration
hospitals the JWB Jewish
Chaplains Council will help
mobilize 136 part-time and
112 reserve chaplains as well
as 138 lay leaders to conduct
Rosh Hashanah and Yom
Kippur services at bases
where Jews serve."
"In Europe," he added,
"High Holy Day services will
take place in Spain and
Turkey, as well as Germany,
Greece, Italy and England. In
the Far East, there will be
services in Korea, Japan,
Guam, the Philippines and
Okinawa."
The JWB Jewish Chaplains
Council will provide 1987-88
JWB calendars, inspirational
literature, and prayer shawls
and skull caps.
In accordance with tradi-
tion, the first of the.services
will occur on the island of
Guam in the South Pacific,
just east of the International
Date Line. Since services
follow the sun, Pearl Harbor
in Hawaii will be the last
base to sound the shofar blast
trumpeting the end of the
High Holy Days.

Arab Rejection
Of Plan Claimed

Jerusalem — A Jordanian
newspaper claims that King
Hussein of Jordan and Presi-
dent Hosni Mubarak of Egypt
have rejected a secret Israeli
offer to withdraw from most of
Judea, Samaria and Gaza.
Saut Al-Sha'ab, which is
controlled by the Jordanian
regime, reported that
American mediators had con-
veyed to Hussein and
Mubarak a secret Israeli
peace plan which would in-
clude an Israeli surrender of
most of the areas Israel won
in the Six-Day War.
According to the plan,
Jewish settlements in the ter-
ritories would be permitted to
remain, and the Israeli Army
would man a number of
strategic outposts in the
areas.
