meet a family a stones throw
away from uncivil war.
The gathering of the clan
takes place Sunday nights on
the Fox Broadcasting Co.
(Channel 50) when Married
. . . With Children - airs.
As Mama Bear to a modern
family of cave dwellers, Katey
Sagal must learn to deal with
a husband whose idea of good
sex is an hour of pawing. In
tight-fitting pants and a hair-
do that sweeps to the sky,
Peggy Bundy finds heaven in
small doses — when hubby Al
swigs the beer but wipes off
the neck of the bottle; when
the ballgame he is perennial-
ly watching is rained out;
when an earthquake hits and
causes the only motion their
bedroom will ever know.
Married . . . With Children
is as outrageous as it is
hilarious. It is the Cosby
family on magic mushrooms;
the Keatons gone bankrupt.
There is no bankruptcy of
ideas, however. And one of the
richest was to cast Sagal,
daughter of the late promi-
nent director Boris (Masada)
Sagal, as the inverted yuppie
mother.
It may not be a compliment
to even suggest that there are
similarities between the ac-
tress And the ersatz '80s June

"Never ask Katey Sagal to
make a cup of coffee," Sagal
says with a raucous laugh,
recalling the cup of rock-solid
caffeine Peggy Bundy made
in one episode.
"Oh, I relate to Peggy, sure.
I pretty much say what is on
my mind like she does, but
I'm not as manipulative. I'm
a bit of a femme fatale."

Peggy can be alluring too;
it's not everyone whose hair
unwinds and leads a trail to
the bedroom.
"I like that, no matter
what, Al and Peggy are
together, " says the 31-year-
old Married . . . With
Children star who is unmar-
ried and without children.
"They have a certain hones-
ty about them. The0Te been
together 15 years and are
very loyal to each other.
They're a working-class fami-
ly."
Sagal's family has worked
well in the business. Her
mother, the late Sara Sagal,
was an assistant television
director. Siblings Liz and
Jean, twins, were the focus o
Double Trouble, a 1984 NBC
comedy.
But the rock of the Bundy
family would rather rock
than act. Formerly one o
Bette. Midler's Harlettes,
Sagal and her heart belong to
the music business.
