About Breast Cancer.
Now we can see it before
you can feel it. When it's no
bigger than the dot on this

And when it's 90% cur-
able. With the best chance
of saving the breast.
The trick is catching it
early. And that's exactly
what a mammogram- can do.
A mammogram is a sim-
ple x-ray that s simply the
best news yet for detecting
breast cancer. And saving
lives.
If you're over 35, ask

M
uch like an illusion
of beauty . . . but as
realistic as a colorful
rainbow.
This is the new Joey's On
Jefferson, corner of East Jef-
ferson and Van Dyke . . . the
$1.3 million dollar dream-
come-true of Gary Tringale.
Gary lives across the street
and so many times would
pass this large building
which formerly housed My
Fair Lady, Van Dyke Club
and Surfside 6 . . . It is actual-
ly two large houses joined
together . . . and Gary, vir-
tually hypnotized by that
"For Sale" sign outside, final-
ly bought it for the fufillment
of his long-time dream.
He isn't married, but Joey's
On Jefferson is his "baby" .. .
and unlike many other people
who want a restaurant . . .
but neglect to take care of it
when they get one . . . Gary
cares for his with much devo-
tion . . . and personal atten-
tion seven days a week . . . He
spends most of his time in the
kitchen . . . having learned to
cook from mother Marion
Tringale and grandfather
Joseph Tringale, (for whom
Joey's On Jefferson is named)
. . . and very well, I might
add. -
His executive chef is Gus
Crocenzi, who many folks will
remember from Larco's Inn
on W. McNichols and San
Juan, and another popular
Italian restaurant . . . Gus
and Gary are joined in the
kitchen by Pino Urso, direct
from Italy . . . and Walter
Grininger, formerly of the
London Chop House.
Joey's On Jefferson is
entered through an enclosed,
lighted garage, where an at-
tendant takes your car .. .
and doors lead directly into
the lavish restaurant-night
club.
The huge interior is a vir-
tual sea of beauty . . . on two
levels . . . plus a sunken dance
floor of glistening tile . . . sur-
rounded by chrome railings,
etched frosted glass panels,
tall wide columns with ring-
ed neon, large potted plants,
neon strips and two well-
appointed bars.
The dining area of Joey's
On Jefferson seats 130 people
in an intimate area with pic-
tures within black frames,
cobalt blue light fixtures, col-
orful wallpaper . . . and Mi-
guel Ramo from Palermo soft-
ly strumming his guitar
while weaving amidst the
tables and heavily-padded
booths.
A six-stair lower level sector
is where people dance to a d.j.
spinning top 40 music . . . as
500 bulbs and 250 spotlights
present Detroit's most
ultimate New York-style light
show . . . Nothing quite like it
anywhere . . . the lights
literally dancing in all their
glamour to the melodious and
snappy rhythms.
The dining area where
jackets are required (lower
level dancing garb is more in-
formal) has a quiet elegance
. . . with personal, secluded
booths on a balcony overlook-
ing the dance floor . . . Mi-
quel's strolling guitar and
soft music of Sinatra among
others wafting from an ex-
cellent sound system, hand-
picked wallpaper, etched
glass, etc. . . . Joey's d.j. plays
dinner music on the first level
until 11 p.m. . . . when danc-
ing begins and his wide selec-
tion of top 40 tunes are releas-
ed into a dancing delight
under the glamorous light
show.
All waitpersons wear tux-
edos or tuxedo shirts and bow
ties . . . The six stairs with
tiny light bulbs escort people
from the first level into the
dining room, where food and
service are prominent
qualities.
lb be truthful, I didn't ex-
pect the food to be as wonder-
ful as it was . . . my visitation
purpose being to see the
beautiful showplace so many
people were talking about.
Rose-colored tablecloths are
covered with glass . . . and
blue napkins gracefully fit in-
to the color scheme . . . and
fresh flowers are on the tables
along with long-stemmed
glasses.
The Shrimp Joey appetizer,
with a fresh tomato sauce
made by Gary and his staff, is
little short of superb . . . And
you won't believe the baked
eggplant vegetable . . . so soft
and fluffy . . . both so tasteful-
ly delicious.
My entree of piccata di
Vitello, very choice Provimi
veal sliced thin and sauteed
with fresh mushrooms, white
wine, parsley and lemon
sauce was absolutely elegant
. . . I tasted a portion of the
lemon chicken ordered by
another at my table, broiled
and very lightly breaded,
with a side of that fresh
homemade tomato sauce .. .
For sure it's my next choice on
another certain visit to Joey's
On Jefferson.
And the dessert . . . oh,my!
