The UNSOP (United Nations
Special Committee on Palestine)
presented a 165-page report to the
General Assembly stating that "all
Jews in the world who wish to go to
Palestine would have the right to do
so." The report recommended the
partition of Palestine into Jewish
and Arab states.
Detroit premiered the new
30-minute color film, Behind the
Blockade, on the "epic of building
while fighting" in Palestine at a
Jewish National Fund rally.

Mother can start the recipe.
First, cream 1/2 lb. margarine and 1/4
cup honey. Have one of the children
add 2 tsp. vanilla, 2 cups of ground
pecans or walnuts and 21/4 cups of
flour.
Let the other children roll into
small balls, place on ungreased
cookie shees and bake in 325
degree oven for 20 minutes or until
lightly browned.
Father or grandfather can roll in
powdered sugar while warm, and re-
roll when cool. May be stored and
when re-serving re-roll in powdered
sugar. Makes about 100 cookies.

Have one member of the family
gather all the ingredients: 6 eggs,
1/2 tsp. salt, 2 cups flour, 1/2 cup oil
and 5 tsp. sugar.
Mother can mix all ingredients
together and beat for 10 minutes
with an electric beater at medium
speed. Let the children drop on wax
paper on a cookie sheet globs of
batter from a spoon and sprinkle
with sugar (or cinnamon and sugar).
Bake at 375 degrees for 1/2
hour. Remove from pan while hot.
Do not cover when storing or the
kichel will become soggy. Do not
freeze.

Saturday, Sept. 19
Cong. Shaarey Zedek will have a bar/bat
mitzvah family luncheon at 12:30 p.m. in the
synagogue social hall. The luncheon will
honor young people who will celebrate a bar
or bat mitzvah in the coming year.
Cong. Shaarey Zedek will have a family
learning service at 10:30 a.m. in the
synagogue chapel. There will be a run-
through of the Saturday morning service,
concentrating on the Torah service, melodies,
procedure and terminology.
Sunday, Sept. 20
The Birmingham Temple will have
Sunday school registration and a family
picnic at II a.m. at the temple. Students in
the Sunday school, Hebrew school, bar and
bat mitzvah, confirmation and philosophy
classes will register and meet their teachers.
Sunday, Oct. 4
Cong. Shaarey Zedek will have a
succah-decorating party at I p.m. in the
syangogue succah. Refreshments and
supplies will be provided.
The Jewish Community Center will have
a succah-decoration workshop and succah-
decorating party at 2 p.m. outside the main
entrance of the main Jewish Center.
Refreshments will be served. There is a
charge of $2 for members and $2.50 for
non-members.
The Jewish Parents Institute will have a
Succot family celebration at II a.m. at Camp
Maas, Ortonville. The celebration includes
the building and decorating of a succah, a
picnic, Israeli singing and dancing and relay
races and games. Admission is free. For

Saturday, Oct. 24
Cong. Shaarey Zedek will have its Beth
Hayeled induction and family luncheon at
10:30 a.m. in the chapel.
Sunday, Oct. 25
The Jewish Parents Institue will have a
bus tour of Jewish Detroit at I p.m., leaving
from the Jimmy Prentis Morris Branch of the
Jewish Community Center, 15110 W. 10 Mile,
Oak Park. Refreshments are included.
