One Israeli, Amos Rolnik, said that about 20 different titles in the Russian language were removed from his planned display. He said they included a guide book and 2,000 copies of a poster providing a simple introduc- tion to the Hebrew language. But another Israeli publisher, Matalon Yael, said the confiscations were in- significant compared to the 7,000 books on display at the Israeli stand. Publisher representatives from several other non- communist countries reported confiscations, but far fewer than in past years. Ac- cording to Mikhail Nenashev, head of the government's publishing committee who organized the fair, the only books banned were "racist, fascist or pornographic literature." 352-9350 H. B. Hadassah Hospital where the surgery was per- formed by a team headed by Dr. Joseph Borman, chief of cardiac and thoracic surgery. He was fit enough last week to talk to reporters. Matzri, 50, a former se- curity guard, said he was determined to undergo the operation in Israel. "I wanted a blue-and-white operation, I wanted to hear Hebrew when I awoke from the anesthetic," he said. Although the first two heart transplants were performed in Israel nearly 20 years ago, it was only last year that the Health Ministry gave official permission to Hadassah Hospital to do the delicate surgery. The rabbinate had objected on halachic grounds and it was only after prolonged discussions between medical and religious authorities that a 12-point guideline was ap- proved. The rabbis, who held that life ceases only when the heart stops beating, accepted the medical definition of brain death. ••• 24-Month CDs With.
