Brandeis Award of the Zionist Organization of America at ZOA' 54th annual Balfour Celebration and Concert, celebrating Israel's 40th bir- thday, Nov. 1 at Ford Auditorium. Only two other Detroiters have been so honored, Jewish News' Editor Emeritus Philip Slomovitz and Max Fisher. The tribute will include the establishment, in Cohn's honor, of the Kfar Silver En- dowment Fund to advance the education of Israeli students at ZOA's Kfar Silver educational center, near Ashkelon, Israel. Richard Sloan, the 1975 chairman of the Allied Jewish Campaign in Detroit, has been named chairman of the Judge Avern Cohn Tribute Committee. JNF Will Honor Sen. Riegle In Flint U.S. Senator Donald Riegle of Michigan will be honored by the Jewish National Fund at a dinner 6 p.m. Oct. 11, at Cong. Beth Israel in Flint. Chairmen of the event are Peter Goodstein, president of the Flint Jewish Federation; Clifford H. Hart, Allen R. Hobson, Murray E. Moss, Michael Pelavin, Charles R. Weeks, and Dr. Eli Shapiro. Senator Riegle will receive JNF's Tree of Life Award, given in recognition of profes- sional and humanitarian leadership. Senator Riegle has been a member of Congress for more than 20 years, having served five terms in the U.S. House of Representatives and now in Donald Riegel his second full term in the U.S. Senate. He is a native of Flint.
