years old in August, his three-
year-old brother, Boris, and
parents, Israel and Fira, have

Jason Brod, son of Miles
and Adele Brod of Oak Park,
will share his bar mitzvah
with Robert Khanukaev, a
soviet Jewish peer, in absen-
tia, 8:15 p.m. today at Temple
Emanu-El. Robert is the son
of Zakharia and Liza
Khanukaev. He has a brother
Ilia and a sister Regina.
Robert's father applied for
permission to immigrate in
June 1975. The refusal was
because he was in the armed
services.
Jason has written to Robert
on numerous occasions, but
has received no response from
him.

B'nai Mitzvah

On Shabbat morning, Eric
Kushner, son of Carrie and
Roger Kushner, and Zachary
Sharon, son of Elayne and
Stuart Sharon, will twin their
b'nai mitavah celebration at
Adat Shalom Synagogue with
Alexander Gilman, son of
Evgenia and Boris Gilman of
Gomelsky Oblast, USSR.
In 1979 Boris and Evgenia
Gilman applied for exit visas.
Having had no access to
military or scientific secrets,
they did not anticipate any
problems or complications.
However, permission was
denied on the grounds that
some of the wife's relatives
were remaining in the USSR.
Both Boris and Evgenia lost
their jobs. The family reap-
plied for exit visas in April
1981.
Eric and Zachary have writ-
ten to Alexander.
