speaker will be Prof. Sarah
Blacher Cohen; professor of
English, State University of
New York at Albany, and a
leading expert on modern
Jewish literature and culture.
Prof. Cohen's topic will be
"The Jewish Mirth Rate!" The
meeting is open to

tional, classified civic service

- nounced the selection of Son-
dra Lynn Berlin as the
1987-1988 Handicapped Pro-
fessional Woman of the Year
for South Oakland County.
Ms. Berlin is being honored
"for her outstanding
achievements in her profes-
sion as well as her significant
contribution to community
betterment programs!'
Ms. Berlin is co-owner, cor-
porate secretary, for the WW
Group, Inc., licensed by
Weight Watchers Interna-
tional, Inc.
Ms. Berlin has earned a
gubernatorial appointment to
the eight member Michigan
Civil Rights Commission;
serves the Girl Scouts as a
Board of Directors member; is
Vice-Chairperson of the
Youth Group for the
Southeast Chapter of the
March of Dimes; is a Board
Member of the Kenny Foun-
dation; is on the Oakland
County Board of Commis-
sioners' "504" Technical
Assistance Advisory Council,

the women's opening meeting
of the year will be held on
Monday at the synagogue.
The program, including a
noon luncheon, will feature a
book review by Adele Robins.
She will review Handmaid's
Tale by Margaret Atwood.
The program is co-chaired
by Helen Brown, vice presi-
dent, and Marilyn Markel.

Israel Sisterhood's opening
membership luncheon at
noon Monday at the temple.
The luncheon is sponsored by

thur J. Hass Memorial Lec-
ture' Fund.
Dr. Libo's topic will be
"Westward Oy: Pioneer
Jewish Men and Women Out
West" based on material from
his latest book We Lived
There Too.
