Maimonides Women Win
Torch Of Learning Award

The American Friends of
the Hebrew University will
confer the Torch of Learning
Award on the Women's Aux-
iliary of the Maimonides
Medical Society at the aux-
iliary's Oct. 13 meeting.
The Women of Maimonides
have donated five founder-
ships at the Hebrew Univer-
sity which led to the creation
of a student aid fund allowing
young Israelis, following their
military service, the oppor-
tunity to receive a medical
education. The women make
an annual commitment to the
Medical Library Journal
Fund which allows for the
purchase of needed journals.
The Torch of Learning
Award is _conferred by the
American Friends of the
Hebrew University in
recognition of men, women,
and organizations who have
influenced the course of

higher education in the
United States and Israel.
The Women's Auxiliary of
the Maimonides Medical
Society's membership is made
up of spouses of individuals in
the medical profession.
Founded in 1925 by Mrs.
Noah Aronstam, Mrs. Leon
Cowan and a group of doctors'
wives who attended meetings
along with their husbands,
the organization has grown
into a leading supporter of
medical education.
In addition to the student
loan fund at the Hebrew
UniVersity, a similar fund has
been created at the Medical
School of the University of
Michigan. Laurie Winston is
president of the organization.
Sarah Levin was named
chairman for life of the
Scholarship Committee in
1985. Harvey Grace is Michi-
gan chapter president.

Federation Apts. Launch
Endowment Campaign

Jewish Federation Apart-
ments, Inc., (JFA) has an-
nounced the appointment of
Vice Presidents Tillie Brand-
wine and Neil A. Satovsky as
chairmen of the agency's new
endowment campaign.
The campaign will provide
resources to ensure high
quality services and pro-
grams for the apartments' in-
creasing resident population.
Endowments hope to provide
additional amenities that will
strengthen independence,
maintain dignity and self-
esteem and stimulate minds.
Funding from the U.S.
Department of Housing and
Urban Development, para-
mount to construction and
