Cantor Jan Mahler will
sing at High Holy Day ser-
vices this year at Temple
Beth El.
A native of Milwaukee,
Wis., Cantor Mahler received
her Bachelor of Music degree
from the School of Sacred
Music at the Hebrew Union
College-Jewish Institute of
Religion, earning her can-
torial investiture in 1983.
She has served as a cantor
in various congregations in-
cluding Thmple Beth Torah in
Dix Hills, N.Y., and Temple
Jeremiah in Northfield, Ill. In
addition, she spent a year in
Israel teaching Jewish music.

Hebrew Reading
Course Offered
The Men's Club of Cong.
Beth Shalom is again offering
the opportunity to learn to
read Hebrew.
The basic course, "Shalom
Aleichem," will begin Oct. 12
and will run for 12 Mondays,
from 7 to 9 p.m. The course
presumes no working know-
ledge of Hebrew.
A more advanced course,
"Ayn Keilohaynu," will begin
March 7. "Ayn Keilohaynu"
will offer those with some
reading skills an opportunity
to improve and become more
comfortable with the Shabbat
morning service.
Registration is open to all.
