The convention, with the theme, "One Generation Shall Praise Your Works To Another," from Psalm 145, will launch the organization's 75th anniversary year. Dr. Ismar Schorsch, chancellor of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, will keynote the convention and Natan Shcharansky, world-famous former Soviet refusenik, and Dr. Ruth Westheimer, noted psychosexual therapist and Holocaust survivor, will be among the featured speakers. The convention is open to all members of Conservative affiliates and more informa- tion is available through the synagogues, the regional of- fice, or the central office at 155 Fifth Ave., New York, N.Y. 10010. Selichot Follows Presentation "Religious Renaissance in the Soviet Union" will be the subject of a lecture/slide presentation at a pre-Selichot program to be held at 9:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at Cong. B'nai David. Dr. Bruce and Howard Sherizen will report on their recent trip to the Soviet Union. There will be a brief coffee hour at the conclusion of the presentation, followed at 10:45 p.m. by the Selichot ser- vice, chanted by Cantor Stuart Friedman and the syn- agogue choir, directed by Chaim Najman, cantor at Shaarey Zedek in Southfield, was recently elected secretary at the Cantors Assembly an- nual meeting in Israel. Solomon Mendelson of Lido Beach, N.Y. was elected presi- dent of the group. Other of- ficers include Robert Kievel of Rockville, Md., vice president, Henry Rosenblum of South Orange, N.J., treasurer and Samuel Rosenbaum of Rochester, N.Y., executive vice president. Established in 1947, the Cantors Assembly is the world's largest organization of cantors, with members ser- ving congregations in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, South America and Israel. Beth Achim Selichot services at Cong. Beth Achim will commence at 10 p.m. Sept. 19 with a coffee hour followed by a slide presentation, "Jewish Life With Refuseniks," by Howard and Bruce Sherizen. Services, led by Cantor Max Shiman- sky, will begin at midnight. Members and friends are invited. Sephardic Rites David Hazan and Salvator Katan, assisted by Dr. Raphael Barfi, will conduct traditional Sephardic High Holy Day services at the Zionist Cultural Center.
