Yiddish Film Precedes S-Z Selichot Service A Yiddish film based on two stories by the Yiddish author Mendele Mocher S'forim, will precede the Selichot service at 9:30 p.m. Sept. 19 in the Morris Adler Hall at Cong. Shaarey Zedek. The Light Ahead, produced in 1939, offers the viewer an insight into shtetl life of ear- ly 20th Century Russia and Poland. There will be a coffee hour at the conclusion of the film. The Selichot service will be chanted by Cantor Chaim Na- jman and the synagogue choir, directed by Eugene Zweig. The service will be conducted by Rabbi Irwin Groner and Rabbi William Gershon. The public is invited to attend both the film show- ing and the service at no charge. Holiday Bond Appeal regional Seventeen synagogues will participate in the annual High Holiday Appeals for State of Israel Bonds during services this year, announces Max Sosin, synagogues activities chair- man for Metro Detroit. This year's holiday Bond appeal will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem during the Six-Day War of 1967. Synagogues which will take part in the holiday Bond ef- fort include: Adat Shalom, B'nai David, B'nai Moshe, Beth Abraham Hillel Moses, Beth Achim, Beth Shalom, Beth Tefilo Emanual Tikvah, Shaarey Shomayim, Shomrey Emunah, Temple Israel, Young Israel of Greenfield, Young Israel of Oak-Woods, Young Israel of Southfield, Beth Israel in Flint, Etz Chayim, Temple B'nai Israel and Temple Shomer Emunim in Toledo. Sosin reported that special emphasis is being placed this year by rabbis and other synagogue leaders who will be conducting Bond appeals on the new Individual Variable Rate Issue (IVRI) Bond, a $5,000-minimum Israel security. IVRI Bond interest is a base rate of 5 percent plus half the difference to the average prime rate as determined by three major U.S. banks. The IVRI Bond is available in denominations of $2,000 for IRA accounts only. B'nai Moshe Dinner Nears - The paid-up membership dinner of the Sisterhood and Men's Club of Cong. B'nai Moshe will be held Wednes- day at 6 p.m. in the synagogue social hall. The evening will feature entertainment by "The Mrs. Three." The members of the group are Mayme Lawson, Florence Karabenick and Miriam Zacks. Their perfor- mance will trace the history of Jewish composers. Guests are invited at a charge. Reservations must be made by Sunday.
