40 FALL '87

in

he news this season
is shorter lengths.
From skirts to suits
to coats and evening
dresses, the 1987 hemline is
shorter. The best news is that
women can choose their own
skirt length. In the Detroit area,
store owners will be showing all
skirt lengths.
"We have ordered short and
long skirts," states Lee Duke, co-
owner of Brava in Birmingham.
Cheryl Hall, fashion director at
Saks Fifth Avenue, Troy, eases
the hemline hysteria: "There will
be many options this season."
COLOR
Brown is definitely the choice
color for 1987. "Our fall '87 will
be a study in browns," states
Candace Barker, director of
communications at Hudson's. All
shades of brown prevail — from
luggage brown to cocoa to
khaki. At the Fash Bash, an an-
nual fund raiser for the Detroit

Institute of Arts, Hudson's
displayed designers Carmelo
Pomodoro and Ralph Lauren
with their collections in brown
tones.
The second palette is an in-
flux of bright colors to add to
the basic browns and blacks.
Deep red or deep pink looks
great with a black skirt. The
Anne Klein Collection shows a
red blazer and matching 7/8
length coat over a short black
skirt with black stockings.
According to Anna Bassett of
Anna Bassett's Claire Pearone
another chic combination to
watch is navy and black.

FABRIC
The newest fabric is the
stretch material which shapes
the body gently. The stretch
fabric is mixed with wool, flan-
nel, gabardine and even silk for
a modern look.
