But be forewarned: This season forecasts strong gists of green, green, green along with traditional autumn breezes of grey, black navy and burgundy. FUNKY SOPHISTICATED BY ELLYCE FIELD A rugged mix of denim and khaki is the perfect choice for active children. THERE ARE MANY CHOICES THIS SEASON FROM RUGGED ACTIVE WEAR TO A REFINED STYLE. Several area merchants offer their opinions as to Fall's best looks for kids. Cindy Obron Kahn, owner of R.G. Crumbsnatcher, boys and girls sizes newborn to 10, located in downtown Birmingham: "This is the year for old- fashioned, sweet clothes, in soft colors and textures. Especially in infant wear, we are showing ice cream colors — mints, peaches, pinks. For all ages, there's still a lot of warm and cozy fleece you just want to jump into." "I buy a lot of clothes with a sense of humor — crinoline skirts, baby jodper outfits, sumo wrestling baby sweats. Hats will be pretty fabulous, both fun and functional." Loretta Lorion, owner of Loret- ta Lorion Childrens Apparel, sizes infant to 14 for boys and girls, located in the Bloomfield Plaza: "This is the year of the pretty child. There is a lovely, Euro- pean, French schoolgirl-look that's new in girls' clothing. I'm showing a lot of sailor clothes, petticoats, lace and ilet trim, navys and burgundys. For the holidays, there are lush velvets. For boys, it's a very graceful and mannish look, a macho- European look. Especially for dress, there are double breasted tweed sport coats, un- constructed with a drop shoulder. Wear this with an open-neck shirt."
