Sue Lasser's experience has
been the same. The Birming-
ham mother of two daughters,
11-year-old Beth and eight-year-
old Nanci, understands Beth's
pre-teen need to wear what the
other kids wear.
"Beth is aware of what her
group of friends wears and also
keeps an eye on the older girls'
look. Most girls her age are
afraid to wear anything that will
make them look different and
maybe less accepted."
"I discourage her from buying
everything in August, for just
this reason. Trends go in and
out real fast. Beth will want the
latest looks, so we start with a
few pieces in August and then
buy throughout the fall and
