Fancy shirts, even without jackets, will be worn to parties this season. Designers like Armani show shirts from luxurious fabrics such as cashmere and silk combinations that are baggy turtlenecks and drape easily over the body. Andrew Fezza creates jaquards in rayon-cotton and rayon-silk blends using Picasso-inspired prints. "We're also seeing all-cotton shirts more frequently," says Ron Elkus of the Shirt Box in Southfield. "An all-cotton pin- point dresses up a button down shirt for business or evening social event." Elkus predicts that the popular colors of mint and peach for the spring collection will continue as the popular col- ors for the fall. Traditional shirt- ing and sport shirts remain as colorful as ever. Although black is still part of the fashion trend, most stores are showing lots of teals, tourquoise and royal blues. Stripe shirts are also very popular. Most retailers are finding that the more expensive, colorful, and unusual ties are selling quickly. Geometric patterns, flowers, scenic themes such as birds or tigers are all part of tie fashion. "Tie and hankie sets are gaining in popularity again," says Elkus. "And the fashionable man of the fall will be matching his socks with his tie, or if he's not wearing a tie, his socks with his sweater. That's the news in accessories this fall." Shoes Low front/low vamp shoes are the fashion for this season. Alan Bishop of Mr. Alans in South- Continued on Page 119
