Beth Shalom. She shared her special day with Evgenya Chernobilsky, a resident of Moscow, whose family has been denied its Jewish heritage. Evgenya's family has been refused permission to emigrate to Israel since 1976. Her father, Boris, has par- ticipated in many protests on behalf of his family's right to leave. He has served sentences in prison on alleg- ed charges of "organizing a demonstration, striking members of the Soviet militia, and hooliganism" and later "beating a policeman." The entire family con- sisting of Evgenya, Boris, her mother Elena, sister Anna, and her brother Yosif, has been granted citizenship by the government of Israel and they think of themselves as "Israeli citizens forced to reside in the USSR." They all speak Hebrew. Taryn has written to Evgenya several times without response. Inquiry has been filed with the postal ser- vice regarding the reason for non-delivery. As yet Taryn has no confirmation that her letters have been received. Taryn is the daughter of Larry and Leda Israel of Southfield. Also participating in the service were her sister, Amy; grandparents, Albert and Beth Margolin and Charles and Bernice Israel; great-grandfather, Alexander Weiner; aunts Andee Mosher and Michele Bloomberg; and uncles Dennis Israel, Cary Israel and Randy Israel. Friends and relatives traveled from Colorado, Florida, New York, Iowa and Illionis to be with Taryn as she read from the Torah. Out-of-town family and guests will come from Canada, Israel, Chicago, New Jersey, Florida and California to help Arthur celebrate his special day. Saltsman Sets Bar Mitzvah Cong. B'nai Israel of West Bloomfield will celebrate the bar mitzvah of Daniel Saltsman, son of Allen and Barbara Saltsman on Satur- day. Daniel will twin his bar mitzvah with Igor Iosovich of Khust, Russia. Igor is the son of Iosip an Zoya Iosivich. Until 1970, Iosovich was chief agronomist in a collective farm and after that he became chairman. His wife worked as a laboratory technician in a food factory.
