Senior Power
Day Planned

State Supreme Court
Justice G. Mennen Williams
will be the keynote speaker at
the 1987 Oakland County
Senior Power Day on Sept. 17
at the Southfield Civic
Center. Michigan State
Senator Douglas Cruse will
extend greetings.
The program will provide
Oakland County residents,
age 60 and older, an oppor-
tunity to meet their county
and municipal officials along
with their state legislators.
Sponsored by the Oakland
County Senior Power Day
Steering Committee, the
day's events will include
registration at 8:30 a.m. with
the program beginning at 10
a.m. Workshops on transpor-
tation and medical problems
and a public hearing will be
held prior to lunch. Reserva-
tions for lunch may be made
at senior centers and senior
organizations.
Following lunch, par-
ticipants may circulate
through the resource fair
featuring organizations, both
public and private, that pro-
vide services to seniors.
Senior Power Day is held in
cooperation with the Area
Agency on Aging Region 1-B,
Southfield Parks and Recrea-
tion, Southeastern Michigan
Transportation Authority and
Oakland Livingston Human
Service Agency.

Senior Satellite
Program Begins

The senior adult depart-
ment of the Jewish Com-
munity Center announces
that a second satellite pro-
gram has been scheduled for
Sept. 9 at 1 p.m.
Aimed at bringing pro-
gramming into the communi-
ty, particularly for those with
transportation difficulties,
this program of musical
entertainment will take place
at the Colony Park Apts. club
house, 21890 Colony Park Cir.
Featured will be Mayme
Lawson and Miriam Zacks
in a musical revue.
Refreshments will be served.
Reservations are required. To
reserve a place, contact Judy
Samson, 967-4030.

New Senior -
Group Forms

Cong. Beth Achim's newest
affiliate, the "Young at
Heart," for everyone 55 and
over, will hold its first
meeting Sept. 17 at 12:30
p.m. in the Sol Schwartz
Auditorium of the synagogue.
Rabbi Milton Arm will give

the opening address, and the
program will feature Max
Sosin, Jewish humorist and
raconteur, and Cantor Max
Shimansky, singing a medley
of Jewish melodies.
Refreshments will be serv-
ed at a nominal charge, and
members and friends are in-
vited. Members of the
organizational committee
are: Chairman, Fredell
Whiteman; Betty and Allen
Buch; Lotty Partovich; Alice
and Morton Cohen; Ruth
Weiss; Grace and Harry
Galens; and Ben and Bertha
Wasserman.

Book Review
For Seniors

Frances Weinberg will
review The Jewish Mother's
Hall of Fame by Fred A. Bern-
stein at 11 a.m. Tuesday in
room 4 of the Jewish Com-
munity Center's Jimmy Pren-
tis Morris Branch for the
senior adult program.
Oak Park Mayor Charlotte
Rothstein will share her
slides of Taiwan with the
seniors at 1 p.m. Tuesday in
the assembly hall of the JPM.
The first part of the movie,
Here Comes Kelly, will be
shown at 2 p.m. Tuesday in
the JPM assembly hall.
The first meeting of the
Widowed Support Group will
be conducted by social worker
Sandy Hyman at 10 a.m.
Wednesday in room 3 of the
JPM.
Ada Bandalene, physical
education director, will con-
duct a CPR workshop at 11
a.m. Thursday in the JPM
gym.
Sonya Nathman will speak
to the Culture Club's
members and guests at 12:30
p.m. Thursday in Jaffe Hall of
the JPM.

Seniors Form
Bridge Group

The senior adult , depart-
ment of the main Jewish
Community Center has
scheduled an organizational
meeting to form a contact
bridge group. Scheduled for
Sept. 10 at 10:30 a.m., it will
take place in room 239 of the
main Jewish Center.
Donald Fields, former
bridge instructor for the
Detroit, Southfield and Birm-
ingham Departments of
Parks and Recreation, will be
on hand to help plan a future
playing schedule. Persons
who are interested but unable
to attend this organizational
meeting, should call Judy
Samson, 967-4030 or
661-1000.
