with Federation-related
causes, Berman has been in-
volved with Jewish education
nationwide. He's been a
member of the board of the
Jewish Education Service of
North America and its
forerunner, the American
Association of Jewish Educa-
tion since 1961 and serves as
honorary chairman. He was
awarded the Boston Hebrew
College Lown Award in 1979
and served as a trustee of
Brandeis University's Lown
School from 1979 to 1983.
Berman is currently
honorary chairman of the
University of Michigan's
Hillel foundation fund-
raising drive and, with his
wife, Madeline, is a benefac-
tor of the Fresh Air Society's
Jewish Experiences For
Families program.
Berman's Detroit communi-

14 years as an officer of Cong.
Shaarey Zedek, chairman of
its building committee from
1957 to 1962, when the cur-
rent structure was designed
and constructed, and chair-
man of its Clover Hill Park
Cemetery since 1978.
He also has served as chair-
man of the board of the
Michigan State Housing
Finance Authority, a member
of New Detroit and a member
of the board of the Southeast
Michigan Regional Planning
Authority.
More than 3,000 persons at-
tended last year's General
Assembly in Chicago, in-
cluding then-Prime Minister
Shimon Peres. Prime
Minister Yitzak Shamir is
among the dignitaries ten-
tatively scheduled to appear
this year before the
organization.

Week" ("CASAZ") in
November as an important
continuation of the campaign
to condemn the United Na-
tions'General Assembly 1975
resolution that equates
zionism with racism.
WZO-American Section
joined CASAZ's sponsors, the
International Association of
Jewish Lawyers and Jurists,
in declaring November 7
through 14, 1987 as Combat
