reverberations and serve as a
healing influence between
Catholics and Jews
throughout the world."
Since most of the Pope's .
visit would fall on the Sab-
bath, Rosenzveig asked that
it be either advanced or ex-
tended for a few hours to in-
clude time at the Holocaust
Center.
Bishop Lynch, in respon-
ding to Rosenzveig's invita-
tion, said that while the offer
to visit the Holocaust
Memorial Center was
"gracious and timely," the
Pope's schedule in Detroit "is
very tight with too many ma-
jor activities in too little
time?'
The Holocaust Memorial
Center opened in October
1984 and • is the only one in
the country exclusively
designed to commemorate the
six million Jewish victims of
the Nazis and their sym-
pathizers. In May, the Benard
L. Maas Garden of the
Righteous, adjacent to the
HMC, was dedicated to those
gentiles who acted humanely
and courageously to shield
Jews from their oppressors.

cording to Harold D.
