Carin Rockind
Twins Rite
Carin Rockind, daughter of
Gladys and Larry Rockind,
will be bat mitzvah Saturday
at Cong. B'nai Moshe. Carin
is being twinned with Maya
Lekhtman, daughter of
Solomon and Taivia
Lekhtman of Beltsy, Russia.
In October 1972, Lekhtman
applied to emigrate to Israel
with his parents. They were
denied permission because of
his army service, which would
last until 1970.
Maya's parents were mar-
ried in 1973, and in 1974 the
family once again applied for
exit visas. They were refused
in June 1974, but after
several appeals, Maya's
grandparents were granted
permission to leave for Israel.
The Soviets "guaranteed"
that Maya's father would be
permitted to see his parents
shortly thereafter.
Maya was born one month
after her grandparents
emigrated to Israel.
Her father lost his job when
he applied for an exit visa.
Her mother has not been able
to work since Maya's sister
was born.
Carin lives in West Bloom-
field and goes to West Hills
Middle School. She and her
family have been writing to
the Lakhtmans, but have not
received any replies.
Congratulatory wishes may
be sent to: Mr. and Mrs.
Solomon Lekhtman, Bulvar
Lenina 12-16, Beltsy, MSSR,
USSR.
Two To Twin
B'nai Mitzvah
Michael Greenbaum, son of
Jadwiga and Joe Greenbaum,
and Andrew Siegel, son of
Helene and Stuart Siegel,
will twin the observance of
their b'nai mitzvah, with
Vladimir Bialik, son of Liud-
mila and Viktor Bialik of
Kiev, USSR, 9 a.m. Saturday
at Mat Shalom Synagogue.
Viktor Bialik is a physician
and his wife is an
engineer/chemist. They first
applied for a visa in
December 1979 and were
refused for "insufficient kin-
ship."
Michael and Andrew have
written to Vladimir and will
attempt to reach the Bialiks
by phone.

Chiropractic's Answer To
Muscle And Joint Pain
BY DR. STANLEY B. LEVINE
Doctor of Chiropractic
Back pain, which sometime during their lives strikes an
estimated 8 out of 10 people, can seemingly develop overnight and
with no apparent cause.
Yet for every effect (in this case backache) there is a cause or
group of causes. You needn't fall down the side of a mountain or
try to lift an elephant one-handed to injure your back. In fact, a
great many of the back pain cases treated by Doctors of Chiroprac-
tic are the result of seemingly inconsequential events.
Stepping off a curb unexpectedly may precipitate back pain.
Unexpected, awkward and off-balance movements can cause back
pain and sciatica. I can even cite one case in which
a husky individual threw his back out of alignment
picking up a six-pack of beer. It wasn't the weight
or the condition of his back that caused the injury,
it was the way he leaned over to pick it up.

Back pain may appear almost immediately
following such an incident. In another case, the pain
might not appear for hours, days or even weeks.
Such a delay tends to hide the specific incident that
was responsible for the injury and the victim may
blame their pain on damp weather or some other
aggravating condition.
Unfortunately, many victims of back pain are content to settle
for relief rather than a solution to the problem. They will take an
aspirin or apply liniment to the painful area. If pain persists, they
resort to more aspirin or more liniment.
In contrast to the "relief now and again tomorrow when the
pain comes back" approach, the Doctor of Chiropractic seeks to
eliminate the pain by correcting its cause. He knows that as long
as the spine is out of alignment, irritated nerves will continue to
send their message of pain to the brain no matter how much aspirin
or liniment the victim uses. The message may be masked by "tem-
porary relief," but the problem will still exist.
