Retirement Sing-A-Long
For Southfield Employee
DANNY RASKIN
Local Columnist
I
t was more than just a
retirement party for
Mort Stein . . . after ten
years a code enforcement of-
ficer and the last three years
also sign inspector for City of
Southfield.
Mort and Bernadine
displayed other talents, too, as
they sang and led about 50
guests at Franklin Rivers
Clubhouse in a jolly
sing-a-long.
Good friend Max Wolf was
the opening emcee . . . and his
wife, Mattie Wolf, gave a
humorous . . . very entertain-
ing . . . one-woman skit from
the show, "Talking With" .. .
presented by theatre of
University of Detroit.
Who catered the affair? .. .
Would it be anybody else but
Mort's son, Mark, Mark of
Excellence owner? . . . As
usual, the food was very good
. . . and few people can put out
a sweet table like Mark.
received
Everyone
historical sketches of
Southfield homes, hand-
drawn by very talented Vicky
Goldbaum, Southfield coun-
cilwoman.
It was also 28th anniver-
sary of Vicky and Ray
Goldbaum, who danced to the
Anniversary Waltz . . . and
then were joined by others.
Mort and Bernadine are
such lovely people . . . It was
nice to be a part of the retire-
ment party.

hospital and recuperating at
home.

dlebelt and 14 Mile.
Among the 20 stores will be
a 5,000-square-foot Tamara's
Institute de Beaute . . . when
she moves her present locale
to the far end of plaza she and
hubby Eugene are building
. . . Plus her regular services,
Tamara will also have hair-
dressers, a nutritionist and
chiropractor within her com-
plete health spa operation .. .
really an ultra big-time setup.
It is expected to open
around March 1988 . . . with
plenty of parking.
CONGRATS ... to Yale
Phillips . . . on his 60th birth-
day . . . Recent party for 70
friends and relatives for him
was at Potomac Club by wife
Irene and children, Helene
Phillips and Paul Zerkel,
Michael and Lynn Phillips
and Toni and Tim Foley.
Ten years ago, when Yale
turned 50, he refused a party
after having undergone a six-
bypass surgery . . . He said if
he lived to be 60 then the
celebration . . . Now it's on to
