pose is to "promote an in-
timacy between God and
humanity, to penetrate the
secrets of the universe, to
hasten the coming of the
Messiah" and to protect the
Jews throughout history, said
Rabbi Blustein.
The rabbi spent the first
sessions dealing with the
historical backround of
mysticism, discussing
angelology, numerology, the
Zohar, false messiahs and the
creation of the world.
The Birmingham Temple
also offers adult education
courses. Monday evenings
from 7:30 to 8:30 Rabbi Sher-
win T. Wine leads a two-year

culture and Humanistic
Judaism. Monday Forum, a
series of lectures on a variety
of topics follows, from 8:30 to__
10 p.m. Rabbi Wine lectures
and occasional guest speakers

year Harold Shapiro, former
University of Michigan presi-

Princeton University, as well
as Detroit Free Press colum-

Wayne State University

A Degree of Excellence

Wayne State University has worked for over
150,000 alumni. Among them:

Casey Kasem (BA '56)

Radio and TV performer and Host, 'America's Top 40"
"Without a higher education, I could not have achieved the broad success I have enjoyed.
I would have been seriously handicapped without it. Since I could not qualify for a
scholarship, cost was a critical factor and Wayne State, as a local university, was my best
alternative. I'm pleased to say that it was a superb answer to my educational needs."

Thomas B. Adams (BA '44)

Advertising consultant
"Looking back over 45 years, I find my educational experience at Wayne State, coupled
with the contacts and friends I made during that same period, has allowed me to achieve a
very successful business and community career within my own 'home town.' -It has been
gratifying to see Wayne State expand and become a great university, playing a vital role in the
renaissance of a large metropolitan area. It is my pleasure to support the Alumni Association
and the University as a gesture of appreciation for all that received during my undergraduate
days."

Dorothy Comstock Riley (BA '46, JD '49)

Chief Justice Michigan Supreme Court
"Wayne State made it possible for me to make my dream of becoming a lawyer come true.
I believe it is important that those of as who are reaping the benefits of Wayne State's
first-rate education support our University in every way we can. In so doing, we not only
make for a greater University, but we can also contribute significantly to our city and state."

Erma Henderson (MSW• '73)

President, Detroit City Council
"Wayne State University had a definite, positive impact on my life. My master's training
as a social worker gave me insights and strengths that I need to fulfill my political
responsibility as a leader in this city. Our Alumni Association must be strengthened on the
University can foster its great mission and proud tradition."

The Rt. Rev. John T. Walker (BA '51, Honorary Doctor of Letters '81)

Episcopal Bishop of Washington and Dean of the Washington Cathedral
"I received a superb and largely unforgettable education from many outstanding
professors at Wayne State. I am proud of Wayne. It has become a well-known University in
the United States and throughout the world. I have personally met Wayne alumni among the
chiefs of Uganda and intellectuals in Central America, Mexico and Saudi Arabia."

White House Bureau Chief, United Press International
"Wayne State University opened up the world to me. I had always known the joy of
learning, but at college I learned that the quest for knowledge never ends. Not only did the
University expand my horizons, it made me realize all things were possible. Oftentimes it
was not until after I had left Wayne that I realized how much I had learned and how much I
continue to learn because of the education I received at the University, and I am most
grateful."
