Jeffrey Cherkinsky, son of
Rosanne and Arthur
Cherkinsky, and Todd
Stoneman, son of Gail and
Ronald Stoneman and grand-
son of Ben and Shirley Marks
and the late Nathan and Ann
Stoneman, will symbolically
share their b'nai mitzvah
Saturday at Adat Shalom
Synagogue, with Valensas
Glinskene, of Kaunas,
Lithuania, USSR.
Valensas is the son of
Stanislavas and Ella Glin-
skene, and has a 17-year-old
sister, Dalia. The Glinskene
family first applied for per-
mission to emigrate to Israel
in December 1979; the initial
reason for refusal was on the
basis of absence of reunifica-
tion of the families.
Valensas's father was
dismissed from his position as
a biology teacher immediate-
ly following his request for
emigration. He must perform
menial labor in order to sup-
port his family. His mother,
however, was allowed to keep
her position as a pediatrician.
Reasons for a second refusal
are not clearly defined, but
were based on insufficient
kinship. __ -
Jeffrey and Todd have writ-
ten to Valensas and will at-
tempt to contact him by
telephone.
