"I am writing you this letter about the South Haven that I remember in its "Hey-Day" of the 1930's and '40s. The ar- ticle in the August 1st issue of The Jewish News mention- ed Buddy and Jerry Lester, Martha Raye, David Rose, etc., but neglected to say that all of them appeared at the only nightclub there was in South Haven at that time — Baron's, which was part of Baron's Resort — a name which was never mentioned in that article. "Also, how can anyone think of South Haven without a memory of the North Shore Dance Pavilion, and all the Big Bands that appeared there, Holly's Restaurant with those great waffles top- ped with peaches or blueber- ries and real whipped cream, and even the Big Casino, where the great Paul Whiteman played til it burn- ed down. "And what about Ruby Samson, who lives here, but then was part of Samson's Resort, or myself, who once was Shirley Baron? South Haven in those days was a true Utopia."
