something permanent which
will not fade over time."
Nagler advises beginning
photographers to purchase a
35mm single-lens reflex
camera, any one of a number
of brands. Just be sure it has
manual over-ride and depth-
of-field preview, he adds.
He offers some tips for new
camera buffs: "Put pictures
up on your walls. They don't
have to cost a lot of money,"
he points out. "Go out and
buy posters. Put up your own
pictures and start living with
them. Go to exhibits. You
learn a lot about composition
from all kinds of art. Learn by
osmosis. Look at photography
books — and I don't mean just
the how-to books. Shoot a lot,
and be prepared to make a lot
of mistakes." ❑
