Neighborhood Project
Hosts Block Party

With the theme "Wow
Southfield!", the Jewish
Welfare Federation's
Neighborhood Project, in
cooperation with the
residents of the "Greater
Square Mile", is planning a
block party for Aug. 30 from
1 to 4 p.m.
Co-sponsored by the City of
Southfield and Cong. Shaarey
Zedek, the gathering will
take place on Andover Street,
between Devonshire and Arl-
ington, near the Beacon
Square Swim Club. The
Greater Square Mile
Neighborhood Party is open
to all current and future
residents of Southfield.
The fun-filled afternoon
will include a talent show,

A fire caused by an elec-
trical malfunction damaged
or destroyed materials stored
in a classroom for learning
disabled students at Yehivath
Beth Yehudah last week.
No students were in the
room or the building at the
time of the fire, according to
Tzvi Burstyn, president of
P'TACH.

P'TACH, a privately-funded
Jewish school for the "learn-
ing different," utilizes space
in the school. Burstyn said
approximately ten students

ed most of the program's
printed materials, including
remedial math and spelling,
reference materials and word,
math and language arts
games. Additionally, a large-
key typewriter and computer
were damaged.
Burstyn said P'TACH is
seeking donations to replace
the damaged materials and
equipment and asked that
concerned persons call him at
559-2295.
Repairs to the classroom are
currently in progress and
Burstyn is optimistic the pro-
gram can still begin on
Sept. 9.

is sponsored by Federation, in
cooperation with its agencies,
municipal governments,
synagogues, organizations
and resident associations.
In the year since it was
established, more than 100
new home buyers have receiv-
ed financial incentives, and a
home improvement loan pro-
gram will soon be initiated
with funds from the B'nai
B'rith Covenant Credit
Union.
Pearlena Bodzin is chair-
man of the block party
subcommittee.

appointed to the newly
created position of assistant
director of Michigan Anti-
Defamation League of B'nai
B'rith's regional advisory
board.

A recent advertisement for
open houses at area
synagogues carried an incor-
rect phone number for the
Downtown Synagogue. The
correct telephone number is
961-9328.
The name of Anna
Rabinowicz was misspelled in
last week's close-up story, Ar-
tistic Paradise. The Jewish
News regrets the error.
