International Parley

BBYOers will attend the
BBYO International Conven-
tion, which will be held Tues-
day through Aug. 24 at the
B'nai B'rith Perlman Camp
in Starlight, Pa. The theme of
the convention is "Tikun
Olam — Making a Better
World:' Featured speaker will
be Dr. Sol Gordon of Syracuse
University. His topic will be
"Sexuality and Self-Esteem."

slogan for the BBYO Regional
Convention, which will take
place Dec. 24-29 at the main
Jewish Community Center.
The theme for the selective
programs will be "The Life
and Times of the Jewish
Then." All AZA and BBG
chapters are asked to select
convention chairmen by Oct.
1.
Zahav BBG elected its new
executive board. It includes
Stephanie Simon, president;
Lisa Kovacs, vice president;
Stacy Dobrusin, treasurer;
Miriam Menczer, recording
secretary; Lisa Cohen,
reporter; and Sharon Roth,
counselor. Adviser is Shari
Lesnick.
Several openings exist for
volunteer advisers to AZA

and
BBG
chapters
throughout the metropolitan
Detroit area. Chapters meet
on a weekly basis from
September through June and
have weekend activities. For

Due to the forthcoming
Labor Day holiday, the first
meeting of the Great Lakes
AZA Council will take place
on Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. in the
Dubin Meeting Room at the
B'nai B'rith Building. The
BBG Council will meet on its
normal day, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m.
in the same facility.

Camp Tribute
To Mrs. Allan

Esther Allan
Rabbi Berel Shemtov,
regional director of the
Lubavitch Foundation of
Michigan, has announced the
renaming of the organiza-
tion's summer camp in
memory of Esther Allan,
marking the establishment
by Norman Allan of the
Esther Allan Endowment
Fund benefitting the camp.
The camp, located near
Kalkaska, has been known as
Camp Gan Israel since its
establishment in 1960. The
overnight facility is part of
the Chabad-Lubavitch move-
ment's Gan Israel network of
day-camps and overnight-
camps throughout the United
States, Canada, Europe,
Israel and Australia.
On Sunday, a delegation of
friends of Lubavitch and of
Allan will fly to Kalkaska to
take part in the official
renaming of the camp facili-
ty as Camp Gan Israel/Esther
Allan. The delegation will be
led by Allan and members of
the Allan family: Jack
Shenkman, honorary chair-
man of Michigan Lubavitch;
Fred Ferber, chairman of the
Allan Tribute Dinner-
