She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Diamond of Nor- thbrook and Rose; two brothers, Morrey Gold and Jack Gold; a sister, Mrs. Bet- ty Greenberg; and one grandson. Saul Shiefman Saul H. Shiefman, a public relations counselor, died Aug. 9 at age 70. Born in Detroit, Mr. Shief- man was the past president of the Jewish Community Center and a member of the Jewish Parents Institute. His firm, Shiefman and Associates, earned a national reputation as a top researcher of the housing and mortgage industries. He founded his firm in 1957. He is survived by his wife, Emma; a son, Joseph of Menlo Park, Calif.; and a daughter, Vicky of New York. G. Meretsky Goldie Meretsky, who was believed to be the first Jewish woman born in Windsor, Ont., died Aug. 4 at age 100. Mrs. Meretsky was a life member of both Hadassah and the Order of the Eastern Star. She also was a member of Cong. Shaar Hashomayim. She is survived by two grandchildren, Kenneth Rogin and Ann Alpern, both of Southfield; five great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. AJCommittee's Rosenman Dies New York — Yehuda Rosen- man, director of the depart- ment of Jewish communal af- fairs of the American Jewish Committee from 1967 until last May, died Aug. 4 at age 69. Mr. Rosenman is credited with creating many national projects to improve the quali- ty of Jewish life in America, including the William Petschek National Jewish Family Center, which engages in research, organizes conferences and in- stitutes and provides training and other activities whose purpose it is to support the family in the U.S. Prior to coming to the AJCommittee, Mr. Rosenman was affiliated with the Paul Baerwald School of Social Work at the Hebrew Univer- sity, the American Joint Distribution Committee and the Jewish Community Center of Baltimore. New York (JTA) — Joseph Aronson, a rabbinical scholar who served as a vice president of the Union of Orthodox Rab- bis of the U.S. and Canada in the 1940s and 1950s, died Aug. 8 at age 96. Mr. Aronson was best known in scholarly circles for his commentaries on the Palestinian Talmud. Jerusalem (JTA) — Jerusalem police detained a student from the Shuvu Banim yeshivah in the Moslem quarter Aug. 2 for spitting in the face of a female soldier at the Western Wall plaza and calling her a "pro- stitute" because of her "im- modest" attire. Shuvu Banim students, noted for their radical behavior, have harrassed their Arab neighbors in the past. After the incident, some 30 of the yeshivah boy's col- leagues gathered around the police station where he was being held and demanded loudly that he be released.
