cil of Orthodox Rabbis. Cafe Katon evolved as the demand grew for
something more creative than the carry-out pizzas Mertz added about
ten years ago to the pastries offered at Mertz Bakery. The pizza is still
on the menu, and can also be purchased for $1 a slice. There is seating

tomatoes and basil . . . Caesar
Salad . . . very delicious
thinly-sliced Provimi Veal
Piccante, delicately sauteed
with vino bianco and lemon
. . . and for dessert a medley
of fresh fruit . . . We accom-
panied our fine dinner with a
glass of white Govi di Govi
Italian wine.
Cafe Cortina has had its
own garden since day one . . .
not a savings in any way
because of the cost in main-
taining a large garden .. .
But fresh from the ground or
vine directly to Cafe Cortina's
kitchen is a reward that is
beyond cost.
Even at Rina's on Schaefer,
Mama Santina always had a
garden so that in the summer
the restaurant would have
fresh lettuce, zucchini, eg-
gplant, etc. . . . It is a joy to
see at Cafe Cortina.
From the beginning days of
