Tel Aviv (JTA) — Israeli
spokesmen say the refusal
last week by the three top
government leaders to grant
interviews to NBC-TV cor-
respondents is an expression
of displeasure over a July 1
network documentary on
Israel.
Prime Minister Yitzhak
Shamir's spokesman, Avi
Pazner, said NBC's "Six Days
Plus 20 Years ... A Dream Is
Dying" was a "completely
biased and one-sided docu-
mentary on Israel." He com-
plained that only non-rep-
resentative Israeli officials
were on camera.
NBC has complained that
the refusal of interviews by
Shamir, Foreign Minister
Shimon Peres and Defense
Minister Yitzhak Rabin is a
boycott of the network. The
Foreign Press Association in
Israel is looking into the
situation.

Another senior member of
the delegation, Genryk
Flachin, was a member of the
Soviet group that met briefly
with Israeli representatives
in Helsinki last August.
The Soviet delegation is
staying at the Tel Aviv Hilton
Hotel. It rented a temporary
office in Ramat Gan to con-
duct its business here. Its on-
ly known contact with Israeli
officials was a short meeting
with Yaacov Aviad, head of
the Foreign Ministry's con-
sular division. Aviad describ-
ed their talks as "extremely
positive" and a "good begin-
ning" but did not elaborate.

Ethiopian
Couple Appeals

Jerusalem (JTA) — An
Ethiopian couple appealed to
the Supreme Court against
the refusal by the Rabbinical
Court to register them as
Jews unless they undergo a
special conversion process, in-
cluding ritual immersion.
The couple, Dov Vera
Lapeto and Eli Noga of
Kiryat Arba, stated in their
appeal that they were mar-
ried in April 1986 by rabbis of
the Ethiopian community, ac-
cording to halacha. They have
since become the parents of a
daughter.
But the Interior Ministry
refused to register them as
Jews without the Rabbinical
Court's authorization. The
court will not recognize their
marriage unless they undergo
conversion rites.
