Israeli Attache
To Resign

GLASSMAN OLDS & TEL•12 AMC

'Tel Aviv (JTA) — Brigadier
General Amos Yaron, Israeli
military attache in Washing-
ton, last week decided on his
own initiative to resign after
serving for 18 months in the
U.S. capital, according to the
Washington correspondent of
the Jerusalem Post, quoting
"informed sources."
Yaron, who enjoys diplo-
matic immunity, is awaiting
a dismissal motion, on im-
munity grounds, from a U.S.
district court case seeking
monetary damage, brought by
survivors of the Shatilla
camp, before he resigns, the
sources are quoted as saying.
The correspondent adds
that a statement issued by
Yaron said that he "will stay
at his post," but sources said
he would leave Washington
immediately after the
charges against him are
dismissed on the immunity
grounds. The Arabs claims
against him followed
criticism of Yaron, then IDF
commander in the Beirut
area, for his failure to act to
halt the Shatilla and Sabra
Camps massacre by Lebanese
Christian Falange forces.

Israel Loses In
Davis Cup

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Israel
dropped the first two matches
to India last week in the
quarterfinals of the Davis
Cup international tennis
competition in New Dehli.
Ramesh Krishnan defeated
Shlomo Glickstein, 7-5, 6-1,
6-2, and Vijay Amitraj beat
Amos Mansdorf, 6-4, 6-4, 7-5,
in the bestof-five series. The
Israelis, especially Glickstein,
were bothered by the 101-
degree fahrenheit heat.
Outside the stadium, Israel
was taking another beating,
of sorts, as hundreds of In-
dians, Palestinians and
Afghanis protested the pres-
ence of Israli players on In-
dian soil.
