"the AIPAC lobby is a well-

other lobbies in a techno-

evidence to suggest that its ef-

Peres Questions
Labor Party
# 4
Jerusalem — The Labor
Party is making an "historic
mistake" by perpetuating an
anti-religious self-image, the
leader of that party, Vice
Premier and Foreign Minister
Shimon Peres said at a con-
ference held at the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem
Peres said that as a result of
this stance and the party's
failure to develop a political
relationship with the
religious parties, the latter
were being driven into "a per-
manent coalition with the
right."
Peres emphasized, in
responding to a question as to
why his party had not been
successful in securing a
Knesset majority for its posi-
tion on an international
peace conference, that some of
his own party members have
failed to realize that in order
to built a majority coalition
for a central issue, there must
be compromises on other
issues.
All greetings arriving after the deadline will appear
in the following week's edition.

Balanced Budget
Mandatory
Jerusalem — The Hebrew
University Board of Gover-
nors — confronting the worst
financial crisis faced by the
university in years — voted to
open the university for the
1987-1988 academic year on-
ly if a "realistic balanced
budget" can be achieved for
the next fiscal year.
This is contingent, the
resolution states, upon "a
realistic commitment" of
financial assistance from the
government and other par-
ties, and, "if deemed ap-
propriate, a revision in the
schedule of tuition feee The
board's executive committee
was instructed to meet in
August to review and possibly
adopt such a budget.
